2011 - ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR
REDDITCH SWIMMING CLUB

Once again, the Club achieved great success in 2011 – almost certainly exceeding what we have achieved at any point in the Club’s long history.

Despite all of our achievements, including one swimmer being awarded the ‘Founder’s Prize’, for the County’s swimmer of the year, we are certainly not going to just sit back and congratulate ourselves!  We have moved significantly forward in the past couple of years, and our aims are to continue this progress.
(Highlights are listed below.)

Much of our success has been built on early talent identification, in learn-to-swim sessions and schools’ galas, and good development of swimmers with potential to become competitive swimmers.  We are always happy to take a look at anyone who might be interested, and will also allow a few free trial sessions while they decide if joining the club is right for them.

We continue to work closely with City of Birmingham SC, where we now have 13 swimmers in their various squads.  These include three members of Birmingham’s new Development Squad.

There are exciting times ahead and 2012 should be both challenging and rewarding for everyone at the Club.

Highlights of 2011
Being the second-placed club in the medals table at the Worcester County Championship.

129 medals won at the County Championships, 23 new County Championship age group records, 3 swimmers won BAGCat awards, as the top swimmer in their age groups, 1 swimmer won the 100 m butterfly for the eighth consecutive time.

Several medals won at the Midland District Championships

5 swimmers competed in the Youth Championships and they all made finals with one swimmer winning the 200m fly, in a new Worcester County long course record time.

12 swimmers competed  at the Age Group Championships with two swimmers winning medals plus there were several other top eight places for various swimmers.

Six swimmers qualifying for the ASA National Championships.

A good year for the Club will usually see 1-3 swimmers qualifying for the National Championships, but in 2011 we had no fewer than six qualifiers. Three of our swimmers made finals and one swimmer further lowered the County record for the 200 fly.

In the various league competitions, we finished 4th in the Worcester Winter League, 6th in the PGL League, 9th in the Mercian Summer League, 7th in the Nuneaton & District Junior League, 13th in the National Arena League (still to be confirmed). Redditch were also very well represented in Worcester County teams throughout the year.
Following their performances at the ASA National Championships, two swimmers were invited to join the England Talent Development Programme.

At the County Relay Championships we finished fourth overall, with 11 medals.  Our 11/12 years-old girls’ won double gold – breaking the championship age group records for both the medley and freestyle relays.

Three Redditch swimmers had already achieved 2012 National qualifying times before the end of 2011.
